Sunday Sound Bath Meditation with Franci (NO CLASS)

This all-levels practice will guide you to find and connect with a sense of calm that will allow you to feel more resilient to stressors and will help you respond instead of react to your challenges. We will use crystal sound bowls to begin to slow down the revolutions of the mind and support your journey inward. Each class begins with a short introduction to the technique and we practice for 15-20 minutes. There are chairs and a few mats you can borrow for the practice or bring your own yoga mat. It is not necessary to sit cross-legged, you are more than welcome to use a mat and lay down for the practice. Styles of meditation: pure sound, breathing exercises, breath awareness (anapana), mindfulness (insight), loving kindness meditation (metta), or body scanning.

Bonsai 101 Series: Cascade & Semi-Cascade Styles

Glenn Hilton, president of the Bonsai Society of Miami, co-owner of Miami Bonsai Specialist, and horticulture specialist presents BONSAI: The Art of Growing and Keeping Miniature Trees.

January's focus is juniper trained in the cascade/semi-cascade style.

The cascade style is an ancient Chinese design, which derives its inspiration from trees growing out of cliff faces and crevices in rocks. Glenn will teach you the history, guidelines, and techniques of bonsai and how to start your own bonsai tree.

We recommend you sign up for upcoming programs to learn about different styles of bonsai and get additional hands-on experience working on trees.

January: Juniper | Cascade/semi-cascade style

February: Bald cypress | Formal upright style

March: "Tiger Bark" ficus/Ficus retusa | Broom style

April: Black olive | Windswept style
