Orchid Repotting Workshop
Join the Miami Beach Orchid Society for a hands-on Orchid Repotting Workshop in the lush setting of the Miami Beach Botanical Garden on June 18th at 6:30 pm. Learn how to properly repot and care for your orchids so they thrive year-round.
We’ll cover everything from choosing the right potting medium to understanding root health, watering techniques, and long-term care. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills, you’ll leave with practical knowledge, confidence, and (of course) freshly repotted orchids.
Bring your favorite orchids and any pots that have outgrown their home—we’ll provide all potting supplies, fertilizer, and a welcoming community.
A $15 donation at the door helps cover materials.
Kids are welcome and attend free! Each child will receive a complimentary orchid to repot (while supplies last) as part of our summer Keiki Club.

Morning at the Garden with Jordan's Garden
This is not a traditional one-hour class, instead, we’re creating an open garden experience where children can move through a few simple, hands-on activities at their own pace. Think of it as a window into what we do at Jordan’s Garden.
We’ll be featuring a potato-inspired activity (a favorite from our lessons), along with other small stations designed to spark curiosity, play, and connection with nature.
It’s a chance to slow down, get your hands in the soil, and experience how learning can feel when it’s rooted in nature.

Glenn Hilton, president of the Bonsai Society of Miami, co-owner of Miami Bonsai Specialist, and horticulture specialist presents BONSAI: The art of growing and keeping miniature trees.
This is part of a series of programs to learn about the ancient art of bonsai. Glenn will teach you the history, guidelines, and techniques of bonsai and how to start your own bonsai tree. We recommend you sign up for upcoming programs—see below—to learn about different styles of bonsai and get additional hands-on experience working on trees.
April's focus is black olive (Bucida spinosa) trained in the windswept style.
In the windswept style, we try to create the effect of a tree blowing in the wind as we would see with trees growing along a coastline.
Instructor bio:
Glenn Hilton is a horticultural specialist for the Village of Pinecrest, President of the Bonsai Society of Miami, and co-owner of Miami Bonsai Specialist. He was fortunate to study under South Florida bonsai pioneer Joe Samuels of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, serving as his apprentice for 13 years. Joe’s training, vision, and remarkable foresight for the future of bonsai deeply inspired Glenn and drew him into the art form himself. Through his involvement with the Bonsai Society of Miami, Glenn has had the opportunity to learn from renowned bonsai masters such as Ben Oki, Roy Nagatoshi, Kunio Kobayashi, and others. He has also gained invaluable knowledge from South Florida and international bonsai artist Ed Trout, as well as local artists including Mary Miller, Mike Carttret, and many more. Glenn is passionate about teaching and sharing what he has learned throughout his bonsai journey, and he hopes to support and inspire others in their own bonsai experiences.

Bonsai 101 Series: Broom Style (CANCELLED)
Glenn Hilton, president of the Bonsai Society of Miami, co-owner of Miami Bonsai Specialist, and horticulture specialist presents BONSAI: The Art of Growing and Keeping Miniature Trees.
March's focus is Ficus retusa trained in the broom style.
Like other classical Bonsai styles, the broom style is often seen in nature. The trunk is absolutely straight, and the branches are arranged in the shape of an inverted fan-shaped broom. Elm trees are perfect for this style—when they go dormant, you can see all the twigs and branching structure of the tree.
We recommend you sign up for upcoming programs to learn about different styles of bonsai and get additional hands-on experience working on trees.
April: Black olive | Windswept style
Friends Circle price: $25 | Regular price: $30
Bonsai 101 Series: Formal Upright Style
Glenn Hilton, president of the Bonsai Society of Miami, co-owner of Miami Bonsai Specialist, and horticulture specialist presents BONSAI: The Art of Growing and Keeping Miniature Trees.
February's focus is bald cypress trained in the formal upright style.
In the formal upright style, the trunk of the tree is absolutely straight rising vertically out of the ground from a radial root system. The trunk should then taper very gradually from the base all the way up the tree.
We recommend you sign up for upcoming programs to learn about different styles of bonsai and get additional hands-on experience working on trees.
March: "Tiger Bark" ficus/Ficus retusa | Broom style
April: Black olive | Windswept style

Arranging with Orchids – Floral Design Class
Discover the art of orchid design in this month’s hands-on class, “Arranging with Orchids,” at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden!
You’ll learn how to create stunning orchid arrangements that are balanced, beautiful, and uniquely your own. You’ll pick up expert tips on positioning orchids in their containers, staking them for symmetry, and combining colors to achieve that perfect “wow” factor. You’ll also explore how to design arrangements that suit their space—whether it’s a 360° centerpiece, a two-sided display, or a three-sided composition.
Your instructor, Michael Coronado, Vice President of R. F. Orchids, brings a lifetime of experience to the class. Michael literally grew up at R. F. Orchids, starting at age 13 and working his way from the greenhouses to overseeing the nursery’s growing and hybridizing programs. He has traveled the world studying orchid trends—especially vandaceous orchids, R. F. Orchids’ specialty—and has exhibited at top international shows including several World Orchid Conferences and the Chelsea Flower Show. As a Senior Accredited Judge with the American Orchid Society, Michael will share insider techniques and knowledge you won’t find anywhere else.
🌿 You’ll walk away with:
New confidence in designing with orchids
A deeper understanding of color, balance, and form
Inspiration to create your own orchid displays at home
Come ready to get creative, learn from one of the best, and connect with fellow orchid lovers in a fun, inspiring setting.
