Members-Only Garden & Museum Tour with Juan Valadez
Join us for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes experience led by Rubell Museum Director Juan Valadez, exploring the remarkable 2019 transformation of Rubell’s 100,000-square-foot campus from warehouse to museum—and the vital role native plants played in that evolution.
Juan will guide guests through multiple native plant gardens created by removing concrete and asphalt and replanting the grounds with more than 60 species of plants sourced from South Florida nurseries. These planted areas, including several non-public spaces not typically accessible to visitors, offer a powerful example of small-scale but critical habitat restoration within an urban environment.
In addition to the gardens, guests will enjoy an insider’s look at the museum itself, including an overview of current exhibitions and a rare glimpse into one of Rubell’s art storage “vaults,” an area closed to the general public.
The tour will also introduce Thomas Houseago: First Light, Rubell’s most expansive single-artist exhibition to date, alongside highlights from the museum’s renowned collection featuring works by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Yayoi Kusama.
